Pigging out in Hong Kong

Just got back from HK few hours ago. (actually when I post this, it was already close to 1 month) The trip was very short, arrived Thursday late at night, and departed Sunday morning. So in total, I only had 2 full days, including the half day Friday in which I roamed the busy street of HK & shopping & eating all by myself (because Richard was still at work). I went to 4 different malls in 1 day, scattered all around kowloon and hong kong islands. I really had a high expectation of the food and shopping there. But honestly I am a little disappointed. I feel the food is equally good in Singapore, and the shopping is so-so and rather expensive there. But hey, it was the memories that last a lifetime :P

All in all, I find the HK breakfast is quite funny that they have macaroni soup and ham for breakfast, like the below pic from the famous Australia Dairy Company. There was a long queue but the line moved pretty fast because they sit you whenever there was a vacant seat (you'll most likely sit with a stranger).

I also tried the steamed egg pudding (below) because the online reviews mentioned that it was delicious. I just thought it was okay. I found that the portion is too much for 1 person, but I finished it anyway because I didn't want to waste food.

Probably one of the best meal I had was this dim sum place called Tim Ho Wan. Apparently it has one michelin star, and maybe the cheapest michelin star restaurant. My favorite was their bbq pork bun. I even bought those yummy buns on my last day on my way to the airport because they are conveniently located inside IFC mall where airport express station stops in this location and I brought it all the way to spore for my sister to try. It looks something like this:

We did try an interesting Japanese restaurant at Rakuen whereby we tried the first time in our life - seaweed grape & squid ink fried rice! Both of them were really good!

Okay, not forgetting my first meal in HK, which was milk tea and crisp bun served with sweet condensed milk..Drooool...

Enough with the food pictures, I am going to close this post with a photo of us atop of the Peak! behind is the HK view, even though the sky was quite gloomy that morning.

Aloha Hawaii

We love hawaii!! Not only it's relaxing, but it offers breathtaking views of the beach, good hawaiian food & luau, and my favourite activity is none other than snorkeling, whale & dolphin watching. Their spam musubi is really good.. They also have spam+ cheese musubi, something that I've never think about to add cheese..and since I love cheese, when I make musubi now, I always add that to my musubi.. I know it adds extra calories.. but oh well.. We love the hotel too.. they upgraded our room to ocean view room.. Nice!

The amazing view from the hotel balcony
At paradise cove luau

One of my favourite food: Puka Dog - hawaiian style hot dog
This is the cheese musubi I'm talking about..

Getting Away: Half Moon Bay

We received one free night valued up to $400 from hotels.com. So I thought I want to maximize its value and staying at one of the best hotels in the bay area. I heard from some people and also based on reviews that Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay is amazing! It's pricey but it offers great service, great view, great food :). I decided to get away on weekend after my final exam. The valet service is very expensive for $45 one night, however, the resort fee includes shuttle to and from Downtown Half Moon Bay. Thinking that the valet cost is too much and not worth it, we parked our car at downtown, and call hotel shuttle service to pick us up before we check in. Hehehe.. Smart rite?

Anyway, truly the scenery was very breathtaking. The weather forecast was supposedly raining, but thankfully it was so sunny that day. The view was beautiful... the blue sky, long and unending coastline, the sandy beach, the blue ocean, the wave, the green golf coarse, the hotel and the firepit..

Once we checked in, we reserved two bikes for free, and biked along the coastal trail. We stopped often to take pictures :)

It's sunset
I thank God for the opportunity to spend quality time with hubby.

A day at Napa :)

Finally..the long awaited weekend is here. Richard and I decided to go to Napa Valley to see vineyards and wineries since I have never been there before. We went to Sterling Vineyards on Friday. It was pretty cool that we can view the beautiful wineries and scenery as we rode up using an aeral tram :) It was a self guided tour so we can walk at our own pace. In between, we were offered some wine tasting. Personally, I am not really fond of wine, so cannot really appreciate its smell and taste. It was a beautiful, sunny day. What a perfect day to date!! On the way back, we visited Vacaville Outlet and ended our day with a sushi buffet at Davis. hehehe
Can't wait for another long weekend..which will be on Labor day in September :P
